Dahm & Ed - Allegiance

It was getting close to the end days of appointment season and while everyone was confident Ed would keep his word and officially join Dahm again after their falling out, it was still too close to pin down this wildcard.

“Prove yourself”, Ed stuttered.

“What do you mean?” Dahm answered.

“I don’t trust you. I am hearing that you might cut me out once we are in the House.” Ed shot.

“Who did you hear that from?! They’re lying! Nobody knows lies like me and that’s a lie for keeps!” Dahm angrily pounded on the table.

Shook, Ed answered, “Well…you still have to prove your allegiance.”

“I don’t like that sound of that. What do you mean?”

Ed cleared his throat, “It means- “

“I know what it means!” Dahm bumbled while spit went flying from his lips.

Ed cowered. Then he remembered he had to win this idiot over. He had the upper hand. He told himself to ‘Man Up’. “You’ll be shot” he said simply.

“What the fuck?!” If Dahm was angry before, he was livid and his fiery red hair was on end.

“You won’t die. I have the best in the biz on it,” Ed giggled at his mob boss impersonation. “He will get your ear or something unnecessary, I don’t know. But it’ll be fine.”

“I’m not doing that.” Dahm was still fuming and Ed offered no reassurance.

“You will if you want to win.” Ed finally took a seat and relished in his upcoming victory.

There was a pregnant pause and they both breathed raggedly.

In a whisper, Dahm asked, “How good is this guy?”

“The best!” Ed leaped from his chair exposing a sliver of his abdomen.

Dahm thought he looked adorable.

Ed continued, “I can afford the best, you know.” He added with a wink.

“He’ll be shot immediately.” Dahm responded matter-of-factly.

“Don’t be silly.” Ed took his seat back in the old wooden chair and his attention was pulled to his surroundings as his attention wavered. “I’ve been planning this for weeks, it’s all covered. FBI and secret service will be all wound up so they won’t know who’s covering what and reporting to where. I created a blind spot so they aren’t able to check and even paid off a few to turn a blind eye. They’ll be fired in the end but they won’t have to worry. To they underground and beyond they’ll go!” Ed guffawed again at his quip.

Dahm, still agitated, “They are going to want somebody!”

“My shooter? Oh, he won’t get caught. I’ve got ANOTHER guy to take the fall. He pledged himself to me years ago and I’ve been keeping him as a pet. I told him I would meet him on Mars for his service in completing this task”. Ed erupted into laughter against his will. “I made him do crazy shit, the fucking moron.”

Ed’s laughter died and his eyes whizzed about the room. Fingers thrumming the chair, he saw sweat on Dahm’s brow. There was a puddle in the far corner, a leak from somewhere. He looked at the ceiling and thought of how old this tunnel could be. It looked like a dungeon. Were people locked in here before? He wanted to buy this place and -

“Fine”. Dahm grumbled and crumpled into the nearest chair.

“That’s a good boy,” Ed sniggered.

Dahm eyed him angrily and he quieted.
