LITTLE ED
It was his first big event! He knew because everyone had told him so.
Little Ed was so excited. He was renamed (previously known as x), traveling with transparent windows, and even eats food with sugar. His siblings have been so jealous, he liked it too much. Little Ed has no problem bragging about it at every chance he got. He has even taken to making them do his chores or special favors with a promise of treats or a good word to their Father.
His Father left him with Nurse K while he went on stage. Ed was fielding questions about his work and expertise with another man, his Father called, “Chinaman”.
Little Ed was enraptured with how cool his Father looked on stage. He mimicked every gesture and expression he saw.
The questions were coming like rapid fire.
“Why are you interested in Mars?”
“ How can we make life on Earth more sustainable?”
“How is travel to Mars going to help our economies?”
Ed adjusted himself in his seat and furrowed his brow in faux concentration. He cleared in throat loudly and directly into the microphone. “Uh, ugh, oh…well, “ he began very slowly, piecing is fragmented thoughts together, “This is the first time in 4.5 billion year history of Earth that it’s been possible to extend life beyond Earth and we should try to do this as quickly as possible, that’s my view.”
There was a succinct pause across the atrium.
Little Ed heard Nurse K scoff behind him.
“Guess he doesn’t have all the answers.” Nurse K muttered to herself while rolling her eyes.
Little Ed thought his Father’s answer was great. It had big words and everything.
